bob ross impacted the world of art.
after serving in the military, bob ross decided he wanted to spend the rest of
his life being happy and doing things he loved, so he started painting. he
started his own tv show called “the joy of paintings” where he gave tutorials
on how to do wet-on-wet oil paintings (the person who invented the wet-on-wet
technique actually taught ross, and now claims that ross can do it better than
him). prior to bob ross' tv show that gave tutorials on his work, oil painting
was considered to be a very difficult and complicated process that took days or
even weeks to complete, and only professional artists would use oil paints.
ross, however, simplified the process of oil painting but still came out with
outstanding results. his method is creating simple techniques by layering
colors to make the painting look more complex. bob ross never sold his
paintings – they were always donated. instead, he made his money by having his
own line of art supplies.
not only is bob ross known for his
paintings and artwork alone, but he is recognized for the things he says during
his painting tutorials. he gives off a feel of relaxation and subtleness. ross
truly believed that you couldn’t mess up a painting – if he or someone else did
something “wrong” on a painting, he called it a “happy accident.” his method of
teaching was really trying to connect the painter with their painting, and to
help keep people calm and not frustrated when painting.
